Local residents first reported a foul odour, which led to the discovery of the dumped refuse. Layers of earth had been used to obscure the waste, raising concerns about ongoing environmental harm.

The Environment Agency has initiated a criminal investigation into this case. They are currently monitoring local air and water quality to prevent further environmental damage.

Residents have expressed their outrage over the fly-tipping incident. Sallyann Bundock, a long-time resident of the area for over twenty years, stated, “It’s really sad to see what they have done up there.” Another resident described it as “disgusting there’s an illegal dump so close to our pretty village.”

Phil Hukin from Natural England added, “It is heartbreaking to see one of England’s precious sites of special scientific interest damaged like this.” Ian Jones, also representing the Environment Agency, emphasized that this is a sickening case of large-scale illegal waste dumping.

The agency has urged the public to avoid the area since it is private land. Observers believe that more stringent waste management practices may be necessary to prevent similar incidents in the future.
