Tottenham Hotspur is currently engaged in discussions with Brighton & Hove Albion regarding the transfer of defender Jan Paul van Hecke. Reports indicate that Brighton has rejected two separate bids from Tottenham for the Netherlands international. Van Hecke has one year remaining on his contract with the south-coast club.

Brighton chief executive Paul Barber confirmed that the club has turned down two offers from Tottenham in recent weeks. Van Hecke previously worked under current Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi during their time together at Brighton, playing 50 matches under the Italian. Following loan spells at Heerenveen and Blackburn Rovers, the 25-year-old centre-back has made 131 appearances for Brighton, including 36 starts in the Premier League last season. Brighton is reportedly valuing Van Hecke at £70m.

Tottenham’s interest in Van Hecke aligns with Roberto De Zerbi’s strategy to acquire ball-playing centre-backs.
