A large-scale police operation involving 500 officers has led to multiple arrests at the headquarters of the Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light in Crewe, amid serious allegations of sexual offences and modern slavery. The operation took place on April 29, 2026, following reports concerning the treatment of a woman who was a member of the group.
During this extensive operation, authorities arrested several individuals, focusing primarily on allegations surrounding forced marriage and modern slavery. The Cheshire Police confirmed that they are investigating specific suspects rather than targeting the group as a whole. Approximately 150 people currently reside in the group’s communal setting at Webb House, which was previously an orphanage.
The Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light relocated its headquarters from Sweden to the UK in 2021. Since then, around 7,000 people have had contact with the movement, which blends Islamic tenets with various conspiracy theories. In total, there are about 56 children living at the headquarters who are home-schooled.
Chief Superintendent Gareth Wrigley emphasized that this investigation is not aimed at the religious beliefs of the group but rather at addressing serious allegations reported to law enforcement. He stated, “This is not an investigation into the religion; this is an investigation into the serious allegations which have been reported to us.” Following the arrests, police are working closely with local partners to implement safeguarding measures for residents.
The suspects involved include individuals from diverse nationalities such as American, Mexican, British, German, and Spanish. The alleged offences reportedly occurred in 2023 and involved one victim. Local authorities have expressed their commitment to treating all reports of sexual assault seriously.
In response to inquiries about these developments, representatives for AROPL asserted that any wrongdoing is vehemently denied. They stated through their lawyers that they have no further comments at this time.
