The 2026 Belfast City Marathon, set for May 3, will introduce an innovative team relay format featuring five distinct legs, each covering different distances. This change aims to attract both seasoned runners and newcomers looking for a unique challenge.
Participants will navigate a total distance of 26.2 miles through various iconic locations in Belfast. The course includes routes from Stormont Estate to Montgomery Road, Boucher Road, Falls Road, Duncairn Gardens, and finally ending at Ormeau Park.
Relay leg details:
- Leg 1: Stormont Estate to Montgomery Road (4.2 miles)
- Leg 2: Montgomery Road to Boucher Road (6.8 miles)
- Leg 3: Boucher Road to Falls Road (4.5 miles)
- Leg 4: Falls Road to Duncairn Gardens (5 miles)
- Leg 5: Duncairn Gardens to Ormeau Park (5.7 miles)
To facilitate participant movement, a shuttle bus service will operate from Annadale Embankment to the relay changeover points between 8:00 am and 10:00 am. This service is part of the overall transport strategy aimed at ensuring smooth logistics during the event.
Parking will be available for free at the Stormont Complex on race day, which should help alleviate congestion in central areas. Additionally, discounted parking options will be offered at Q-Park and APCOA car parks for participants.
The marathon organizers have confirmed that all transport services for spectators and participants will be free, excluding rail services. Early morning train services are also scheduled from Derry, Larne, Bangor, and Newry to Belfast on race day.
This year marks the marathon’s 44th occurrence, and thousands of participants are expected to join in this significant community event.
