Arsenal are reportedly exploring a potential deal to sign Vinícius Júnior from Real Madrid. The Brazil international, who is 26 years old, has one year remaining on his contract at the Bernabéu. This move is understood to be in its early stages as Mikel Arteta seeks a significant signing after the club’s recent Premier League title win.
The interest in Vinícius Júnior comes as Arsenal aims to strengthen their left-wing attacking options. The player was the 2024 Ballon d’Or runner-up and scored 22 goals for Real Madrid last season, in addition to four goals for Brazil at the World Cup. Other forwards on Arsenal’s radar include Julián Álvarez of Atlético Madrid, Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig, and Bradley Barcola of Paris Saint-Germain.
Contract situation and potential move
Vinícius Júnior’s future at Real Madrid is uncertain, particularly following José Mourinho‘s return to the club. With the player entering the final year of his contract, Real Madrid could consider selling him rather than risk losing him for free next summer. There has been no direct club-to-club contact at this point, but Arsenal’s interest is reported to be genuine.
Reports indicate that Vinícius Júnior is currently on 15m Euros a year net, while Real Madrid have offered him 20m Euros. The player is reportedly seeking 30m Euros, which amounts to just over 550,000 Euros a week net. During a Champions League tie in February, Benfica‘s Gianluca Prestianni was accused by Vinícius Júnior of racial abuse. Mourinho, then Benfica manager, stated that “something happens, always” in matches where Vinícius Júnior plays. Prestianni was subsequently banned for six matches after admitting to using homophobic language.
Despite this, it is understood that Vinícius Júnior and Mourinho have been in contact since the incident and were prepared to start the new campaign together with a clean slate. However, Arsenal’s reported interest now opens the possibility of Vinícius Júnior playing in the Premier League for the 2026/27 season.
