Craig and Lindsay Foreman, a British couple, have been sentenced to 10 years in prison in Iran for espionage while on a motorcycle journey. They strongly deny the charges brought against them.
The couple was arrested in January 2025 while traveling through Iran as part of their global motorcycle journey. In February 2025, they received their sentences, which have left them held in Tehran’s Evin prison for 16 months.
Lindsay is currently 53 years old, while Craig is 52 years old. They can only communicate with family through monitored calls and have been separated during their incarceration.
Craig Foreman has publicly urged the UK government to take stronger action for their release, stating, “We feel as though our lives are being wasted.” Meanwhile, Lindsay has been trying to maintain her mental health through reading, exercise, and yoga. She remarked, “The reality of a long-term sentence is becoming increasingly difficult to accept.”
Both individuals were aware of travel warnings against visiting Iran prior to their trip. The Iranian authorities have accused them of espionage allegations that remain unsubstantiated by any evidence presented publicly.
Several fellow prisoners of Craig have faced dire consequences, including execution. This situation raises concerns about the safety and treatment of foreign detainees within Iran’s judicial system.
The next steps in their case now sit with the UK government, which has yet to provide a clear timeline or strategy regarding their release.
