Gang Sentenced for Burglary and Streaming Crimes in North-East Wales

gang — GB news

A recent case in North-East Wales has seen a gang sentenced to more than 30 years for their involvement in illegal activities. One group, targeting elderly victims in a series of burglaries, received prison sentences, while another gang was ordered to repay millions for illegally streaming Premier League matches.

Details of the burglary gang:

  • The gang deliberately identified vulnerable elderly victims, observing them before following them home.
  • They used a cover story about searching for a missing cat to gain entry into homes.
  • Five known victims suffered trauma and loss due to their actions.

Three men and one woman from this gang received sentences ranging from just under two years to over three years. Adam Purcell received three and a half years, while Michael McGuire was sentenced to two years and 11 months. Michael Berry faced three years in prison, and Anne Delaney received a suspended sentence of 23 months.

Superintendent Mark Williams commented on the impact of these crimes, stating, “This organised crime gang targeted a number of innocent families – some who were extremely vulnerable – stealing cash and sentimental family jewellery for their own financial gain.” He added that the outcome sends a clear message that such criminal behavior will not be tolerated.

Illegal streaming operation details:

  • Five members of the illegal streaming gang were sentenced to over 30 years collectively.
  • The operation generated more than £7 million between 2016 and 2021.
  • They were ordered to repay £3.75 million, marking it as the second largest amount ordered against illegal streaming operators in the UK.

The financial penalties will see half returned to the Treasury while the rest supports bodies involved in prosecution efforts. This ruling highlights ongoing efforts by authorities to combat organised crime linked to both burglary and illegal streaming activities.
