ITV is set to revive the classic game show Name That Tune, with popular presenter Alison Hammond taking on hosting duties. This marks a significant return of the show to UK television after decades, having originally aired from 1976 to 1987.
The format, created by Harry Salter in the 1950s, tests contestants’ music knowledge through fast-paced rounds. The U.S. version has enjoyed a successful revival on Fox since 2020 and has aired for over 70 years across various networks.
Hammond expressed her excitement about hosting, stating, “As a massive music lover, my biggest challenge as a host will be trying not to grab the mic and start singing along when one of my all-time favourite tunes comes on!” She also noted that being part of this revival feels like a full-circle moment for her.
Katie Rawcliffe, Director of Entertainment, Reality & Daytime at ITV, emphasized the show’s iconic status, saying, “Name That Tune is such an iconic brand and we are excited to be bringing this refreshed global format to the UK audience.” She highlighted that the show will not only challenge contestants but also allow viewers to play along from home.
The new version will feature performances by the band from the U.S. edition. It is produced by ITV Studios’ Bright Entertainment in collaboration with BiggerStage and will air on both ITV1 and ITVX.
The original series was hosted by Tom O’Connor and Lionel Blair, captivating audiences with its unique blend of entertainment and competition. Now, fans can look forward to a modern iteration that promises to engage both old fans and new viewers alike.
As anticipation builds for its debut on May 1, 2026, many are curious about how this revival will resonate with today’s audience. The inclusion of interactive elements may enhance viewer engagement and broaden its appeal.
