A bomb hoax led to the evacuation of a Peter Kay show at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham, causing panic among audience members. The incident unfolded approximately 45 minutes into the performance, as attendees were asked to leave without being informed of the situation.
The evacuation was prompted by reports of a suspicious bag left in the venue. Following the alert, West Midlands Police advised the precautionary evacuation. Officers conducted thorough searches and confirmed that nothing suspicious was found.
Audience reactions varied during the chaotic exit. One attendee, Steve Aspinall, initially thought the evacuation was part of the show. Another audience member, Miranda Richardson, described how quickly events unfolded: “One minute [Kay’s] on stage and the gig is great, then two of the event team walk on stage straight to him, quick word and he’s ushered off.”
West Midlands Police have charged a 19-year-old man in connection with the bomb hoax. Officials have not disclosed further details regarding his identity or motives at this time.
In response to the incident, officials from Utilita Arena emphasized that safety and security are their highest priorities. They assured ticket holders that they would be contacted regarding this unsettling occurrence.
