Actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has made a stunning debut in the Tamil Nadu elections, leading in a significant number of constituencies and challenging the dominance of traditional parties. As of the latest trends, TVK is leading in 110 of the 234 constituencies.

The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) alliance is ahead in 61 seats, while the AIADMK-led alliance follows with leads in 62 constituencies. This shift marks a significant change in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, breaking the long-standing duopoly of Dravidian parties.

Vote Share Breakdown:

  • TVK secured 34.72 percent of the vote share, approximately 1.18 crore votes.
  • The DMK polled around 24 percent, translating to about 84 lakh votes.
  • The AIADMK garnered about 21 percent of the vote share, or roughly 73.93 lakh votes.

Vijay contested from two constituencies—Perambur and Tiruchirappalli East—and was leading in both. In Tiruchirappalli East, he held a margin of 6,499 votes at the end of the first round of counting. TVK’s performance cut across urban centers and rural constituencies, including traditional DMK strongholds.

Celebrations erupted outside TVK’s headquarters in Chennai as party workers rejoiced over their success. Actor Sivakarthikeyan congratulated Vijay, stating, “Congratulations to Vijay sir for achieving such a big victory and impact in his first election.”

K Annamalai expressed his satisfaction with the electoral outcome, saying, “I am happy to see that in my land, people have risen in one voice and spoken – no to buying of votes, no to dynastic politics, and yes to a generational shift in politics.” The voter turnout for this election reached an impressive 85.1 percent, marking the highest in the state’s history.

The TVK had promised monthly assistance of Rs.2,500 for women under 60 years of age—excluding beneficiaries of similar existing schemes—contributing to their appeal among voters. This new party’s emergence signals a potential reshaping of Tamil Nadu’s political dynamics moving forward.
