Ascend airways liquidation

ascend airways liquidation — GB news

“It’s gone bust today, we got the news this afternoon. We’ve all been given the letters that it’s all going into liquidation,” an employee stated following the announcement that Ascend Airways has ceased all operations as of May 1, 2026.

The airline confirmed it will return its aircraft fleet and relinquish its UK Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC). Established in 2004 and having traded under the Ascend Airways name for just three years, the company primarily operated as a ‘wet-lease’ provider, supplying aircraft to other airlines.

The closure stems from various economic challenges, notably the impact of the Iranian conflict on jet fuel availability. Employees received notification that operations would wind down after completing the final Oman Air service from Muscat on April 30.

Despite the cessation of UK services, Ascend Airways Malaysia continues to operate normally. The Malaysian division is reportedly stable and meeting all contractual obligations while progressing with expansion plans.

At the time of its closure, Ascend Airways’ fleet included one Boeing 737-800 and six Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. Employees now face uncertainty regarding their salaries; many may not receive full payment for May, with potential compensation capped at £750 per week.

The airline’s collapse raises questions about the broader implications for regional air travel and employment in the sector. Officials have not disclosed further details about the exact reasons behind these economic challenges.
