Due to upcoming bank holidays, many benefit payments from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) will be issued earlier than usual. This change aims to ensure that claimants have access to their funds during these periods when DWP offices and banks are closed.
Key payment changes:
- Payments due on Monday, May 4 will be issued on Friday, May 1.
- Payments scheduled for Monday, May 25 will arrive on Friday, May 22.
- Affected payments include State Pension, Universal Credit, Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Child Benefits, Adult Disability Payment (ADP), and Attendance Allowance.
The Early May Bank Holiday has been traditionally observed in the UK since 1978, while the Spring Bank Holiday has been a nationwide event since 1971. These holidays lead to the temporary closure of DWP offices and phone lines, which is why adjustments to payment schedules are necessary.
DWP officials confirmed that payments are made when all services—including online chat and Jobcentre Plus offices—are operational. As a result, no payments will be made as usual on these bank holidays.
The full state pension increased to £241.30 a week starting April 6, 2026. This adjustment reflects ongoing efforts by the government to support individuals reliant on these benefits during challenging economic times.
As the next bank holidays approach, beneficiaries should prepare for these changes in their payment schedules. While specific timelines for future adjustments have not been disclosed beyond May, it is essential for claimants to stay informed.
